Peeps is an 90s inspired sporty goth style that has been popularized in Harajuku's underground scene by the online magazine PEEPS. Many argue that it is also heavily inspired by, or at least draws many parallels, to the emerging egirl “goth” fashion. It was voted one of the trends for 2020 in the yearly trend forecast by the Japanese women's magazine Mery. [1]

The Name[]

Peeps (ピープス) derives from the English slang that refers to "friends". The name was chosen to reflect the theme of the online magazine of the same name, which is "It would be nice if girls with this style could connect with each other and have a sense of fellowship while wearing their clothes with confidence". [2]

Style Basics[]

The all-black outfits give a cool impression to both men and women. A contrasting color is casually integrated with the help of accessories such as hats, socks and bracelets. The vivid color purple is highly popular and gives a casual accent to the outfits. Animal prints and other bold patterns are common motifs. It is also recommended to use arm warmers and fishnet tights for a layered look. [2]

Brands & Shops[]

While there are no official brands associated with the style, there are few selected stores catering to it.
