Mode Fashion focuses on usually monochrome, bold looks that mimic high fashion concepts and follows fashion trends closely. The style is a continuation of the Karasu Zoku style, and in many ways still resembles the classic style. [1]
The Name[]
Mode, or Mode Fashion (モード系ファッション) is the Japanese name for fashion concept. It does not describe the word "mode" meaning fashion in French, but rather was borrowed to describe the Japanese style that follows high fashion-like trends.
Style Basics[]
Clothing[]
Mode fashion is known for its primarily black or monochrome color schemes, similar to Karasu Zoku, its predecessor. However, in recent years different colors have begun to be introduced as well. [2] Although the style can be varied, it does have a few common themes. One is a favoring of asymmetrical designs, as well as oversized and usually shapeless items, and unique silhouettes. [1][2][3] Another common theme is a focus on high fashion brands, or mimicking such brands with a sophisticated style.[3][4] The image of the style should envoke a mature image, as if you have stepped off the runaway or are attending Fashion Week. [5] Because of this trends-focus, the style is characterized by rapid change as trends come and go, and can be somewhat ambiguous. [3]
Although the style is usually created with blocks of color, it sometimes features inorganic and bold patterns and designs, such as checks or stripes. Recently, animal prints have been used as well. [4]
Accessories[]
Accessories for this style are usually minimal, existing in bold statement pieces like large bags, thick belts, or occasionally a bracelet or necklace. Makeup is usually heavy or bold makeup, although some more neutral looks may be featured as well. [4] Hair is often black, with bobs and bangs being a popular choice.[2]
