Gaijin Gyaru is a term used to describe the foreign gyaru community.
The Name[]
Gaijin Gyaru (外人ギャル) combines the term for the gyaru style, and the word "gaijin" meaning "foreigner."
Currently, the word gaijin is somewhat an ethnic slur to some foreigners living in Japan, and has fallen out of use, instead being replaced by the word Gaikokujin (外国人). [1] However, the term has been retained for the gyaru community, or in some the "gaijin" title is dropped entirely.
Style Basics[]
Gaijin gyaru can be used to describe any style of gyaru worn by non-Japanese people. Any substyle or regular style of gyaru counts, as long as the person wearing the style is not Japanese. Usually, gaijin gyaru are pictured as not Asian, but any person of Asian decent who is not Japanese can also be considered under the umbrella term. [2]
